"This was a difficult course, but the commitment from the students was outstanding," said Keith Herndon, the course instructor who is also president of Atlanta-based Internet Decisions, LLC. "The awards were a way of recognizing a high level of effort."

Students in this Communications Department course were required to write an extensive literature review based on research published in at least 10 scholarly, peer-reviewed journals. The award-winning papers included such tops as satirical news shows, radio advertising, social networking and the communication dynamics between doctors and nurses. "The range of topics explored by the students underscores how diverse the communications field is," Herndon said.

Jenny Harrison was awarded the class Gold Medal, while Adam Cardellino was presented the Silver Medal and Jessica Spencer was awarded the Bronze Medal. Jamie Tanner and Kelly Warren also were presented with certificates of achievement.
