March 2011: Herndon Presents at Southern States Communication Association Annual Conference

Little Rock, AR (March 26, 2011) - Dr. Keith Herndon, President of Atlanta-based Internet Decisions, LLC, presented research as part of a panel discussion at the 81st annual meeting of the Southern States Communication Association (SSCA) held here.

Dr. Herndon's presentation about the history of the newspaper industry's relationship with online media was part of a program entitled: "Understanding the Present, Re-evaluating the Past." His talk explained a time when the newspaper industry confronted the emergence of the Internet as a consumer medium. The presentation focused on the operating practices of newspapers as they attempted to exploit online opportunities. It specifically focused on the case study of the New Century Network, the ill-fated project in 1995 to create an internet platform for the newspaper industry.

"Case studies play an important role in strategic planning engagements. Industry executives can glean valuable insights into current business challenges by studying the successes and failures associated with earlier business problems," Dr. Herndon explained. "In researching these case studies, it is very useful to do so within an academic framework."

Dr. Herndon conducted his research as part of a Ph.D. program in Internet Studies he completed under the supervision of Matthew Allen, Ph.D., at the Curtin University of Technology in Perth, Australia.
